Siegfried & Jensen wants today’s college students to think critically about recent developments within the civil system. We want to reward tomorrow’s leaders who care about how those developments can support underserved and disenfranchised communities.
That’s why the firm began offering its Truth, Justice, and Fairness Scholarship, valued at $2,500.
This year, the firm’s Salt Lake City personal injury lawyers are thrilled to award the Truth, Justice, and Fairness Scholarship to Western Governors University student Sasha Moore.
Moore is in the process of completing her M.B.A. and hopes to transform her personal experience within the civil system into a tool she can use to advocate for victims of serious accidents.
Unique Experience With the Civil Process
Moore’s video about the state of today’s civil system starts with an intimate look at her personal experience within it. She tells a story about a car accident from 2019 that saw her T-boned by someone making an illegal left turn. “That accident changed my life,” she says, going into detail about how her initial injuries evolved into chronic pain that she deals with to this day.
In her own words, Moore would not wish the kind of injuries she suffered on anyone. She also makes it clear that she wouldn’t wish her experience within the civil circuit on victims of accidents like hers.
It took her two years of litigation to get any financial support, a process that required her to turn over every detail about her medical care and other losses.
In the middle of pursuing her car accident claim, Moore developed an autoimmune disease, compounding her chronic pain and making her experience even more challenging to tackle.
While she went on to secure the compensation necessary to pay her bills, her time in the civil system has driven her to pursue a career that makes it easier for other victims to recover.

Turning Dissatisfaction Into Action
Moore didn’t let herself sit with her dissatisfaction after closing her personal injury case. She still feels like she didn’t receive enough for her losses, and she’ll be dealing with chronic pain for the rest of her life. Nonetheless, she’s determined to make it easier for other victims of personal injury accidents to recover from their losses.
She hopes that by pursuing her M.B.A., she can facilitate connections between accident victims and lawyers who will, in her words, “fight tooth and nail” for the justice clients deserve.
She notes that having an ally to serve as an intermediary between her and an attorney may have made it easier for her to fight for a more comprehensive accident settlement.
Using Her Degree to Better the Healthcare Industry
Moore’s scholarship video revealed her to be a powerful advocate for people contending with life-changing injuries and illnesses. She wants everyone suffering from these conditions to have their pain recognized and treated with the compassionate, knowledgeable care that they deserve.
Moore believes that she can turn her M.B.A. from Western Governors College into a tool that makes it easier for hospitals and other organizations to operate more effectively.
She hopes that by greasing the wheels of daily operations, she can make it easier for accident victims to get the care they need and hold the right people responsible for their recoveries.
“Completing my M.B.A. will be a dream fulfilled,” she says. She notes that she’s overcome innumerable obstacles and only has one more semester to go before she’s ready to graduate.

Taking Inspiration From Her Family
When asked about the forces that inspire her to act, Moore immediately cited her mother.
“My mom was always a pillar of strength for my family,” she explains. “My mom always seemed like a miracle worker for me and my sisters. She was always a source of calm and peace.
She let us know that we were capable of anything we put our minds to. We lost her in 2001 when I was eleven years old, but her legacy lives on within me and my siblings.”

Learn More About the Truth, Justice, and Fairness Scholarship
Siegfried & Jensen created the Truth, Justice, and Fairness Scholarship in hopes of helping thoughtful and compassionate college students overcome the financial barriers standing between them and their academic ambitions.
Students applying for the Truth, Justice, and Fairness Scholarship must create a video of no more than three minutes in length discussing their engagement with modern personal injury law and how the law can benefit disenfranchised communities. The team also wants students to discuss how their degrees may make it easier for them to help communities in need.
The team hopes that these critical examinations of personal injury law will make it easier for the next generation to think about how the civil system can evolve to better suit the needs of the next generation.
Students interested in applying for the Truth, Justice, and Fairness Scholarship can read the scholarship’s terms and conditions for information about the qualifying criteria.
Congratulations, Sasha Moore!
Sasha Moore’s video response to the Truth, Justice, and Fairness Scholarship prompt was raw and from the heart. The scholarship selection committee was moved by the pain she shared with the firm as well as the way she plans to transform that pain into action.
The personal injury lawyers with Siegfried & Jensen believe that the Truth, Justice, and Fairness Scholarship’s $2,500 in financial support will give Moore the leg up she needs to push through the final classes needed to get her M.B.A.
The firm wishes her the best of luck with her final semester and looks forward to seeing how her compassionate care transforms the way medical professionals and attorneys advocate for accident survivors.
