Lake Point, UT (March 29, 2019) – A serious and violent collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Tooele County on March 26th.  The crash is said to have taken place just after 9:15 in the morning.
Emergency responders were called to the scene of the crash that involved a 5000-gallon tanker truck that collided with a semi-truck.  The incident occurred on I-80 near the exit ramp 99 in Lake Point.  That area is under construction at this time.
Utah Highway Patrol reported that a contracted portable toilet tanker truck that was at the location to service the portable toilets that were at the construction site.
The driver of the tanker truck cut across the lanes on I-80 East and ended up pulling his tanker out directly in front of a semi-truck that was hauling gravel.  The gravel truck tried to swerve out of the way of the tanker truck but was unable to do so.  The two massive vehicles collided causing the 5000-gallon tank of waste material to spill on to the highway.
The semi-truck driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.  The tanker trucks driver was transported to Mountain West Hospital for treatment.  His passenger was airlifted to University Hospital in Salt Lake City with moderate injuries.
Our thoughts are with everyone who sustained injuries as a result of this incident.  We hope that they will all be able to recover fully.
